I didn't fall off the face of the earth

Happy 2010 !
Inspired by the movie Julie and Julia I have decided to try and get back to some more frequent blogging. I Loved this Movie !

You are not alone if you didn't hear from me in 2009.
Unfortunately I was extremely ill for most of the year.

To make a long story short, I went to the Dr. in April because I was not feeling well and found out I was severely Anemic. My year consisted of many, many tests ~ typically I was going in every 2 - 3 weeks for blood work as my Dr. was trying to figure out what caused me to be so anemic. I also had an Endoscopy and Colonoscopy which showed nothing, then my Dr. Suggested Novasure AKA Ablation surgery to permanently stop my menstrual cycle since I had no blood to spare(I know that sounds terrible but it's the way it is).
I was also taking huge amounts of iron and eating a disgusting amount of red meat. In the mean time I was continuing to become more and more anemic. I felt horrible, as it got worse I was becoming more and more tired, so short of breath, confused and depressed. I fell down the stairs and blacked out for about 20 minutes. Luckily I was not severely hurt but had dark purple bruises all up and down my left side. After that I pretty much stayed upstairs as much as possible fearing another fall. This kind of isolation caused more depression and I was so looking forward to the Nova sure surgery as my Dr. felt it would really turn things around.
I wound up with Pneumonia and my surgery was postponed 2 weeks. Finally I had the surgery and hoped it would be the magic cure. It wasn't. My Dr. called me with the bad news that I was significantly worse and sent me to a Blood Specialist(hematologist) at the Cancer center. The dreaded "C" word had come up a couple times and now I was really frightened.
Mike went with me to the appt. and we were ready to hear the worst. Instead he told me he didn't see any sign of cancer or an exact cause for the anemia. What he did tell me was that and Iron transfusion would most like take care of the problem. He also told me that my iron was down to Nothing !
I was scheduled for the following week (the week before Thanksgiving)for the all day treatment. My Dr. told me that it would cause muscle pain for possibly the next 4 ~ 6 weeks as the iron settled in but that I would begin feeling better very quickly. It took all day and I was feeling so fortunate. I was at the cancer center in a chair in a long row of chairs in the middle of numerous others getting their chemotherapy. The muscle pain started right away but by the following day I had so much color in my face I looked like I had been on vacation. Wow it was working. Then another setback Pneumonia the night before Thanksgiving. This sucked ! It was September when I had it the last time. My immune system had turned to crap. Even though I was sick I felt like I had a bit more energy.
By the time I went to my 1 month follow up I found out my iron was up to normal. The Dr. said I may need another transfusion in the next year Or I may not. Finally Good News ! After months of not crafting I was back in my studio a little more each day. I was wanting to do so much once I started feeling better but my body still keeps making me slow down after spending most of the year in bed.
I am hoping for a Fantastic Year in 2010. I have had lots of guilt over not being there for my family for so many months even though I know it wasn't my fault. I have realized though that I can't beat myself up and it's just time to move forward.

Reading this back makes it seem like it was over quickly but it was truly an agonizing year. I hope it sums up for any of you that have not heard a peep from me what has been going on.
There were of course some good times and I will try and get back soon with some of those highlights and some pics.
One more thing ~ I am so Thankful for my Amazing husband, who patiently took such good care of me and the kids through all of this. I Love you Mike !

Happy 4th - 2009

Happy 4th of July !

I am so grateful for all our Brave Men and Women serving in Iraq as well as other areas in the world ~ Thank you for protecting our FREEDOM !

The kids are out of school now as of last Thursday. Lacey will be starting Junior High as a 7th grader at Hunter Jr. High when she goes back to school in August and Cam will return at the end of this month as a 5th Grader. He is looking forward to being the only Paschall at Valley Crest at not having all of Lacey's friends scream out his name and give him hugs. Honestly I think he will miss them.

Mike got the boat out yesterday, checked out everything, made a couple of small repairs and cleaned it up. We are hoping to have it in the water in a couple of weeks.

Lacey will be at Girls camp all next week and Cam and I have plans to see movies, go to Hollywood Connection and the Centennial Park pool.

Next Month is Cruefest 2 and the Walk to Cure Diabetes at Wheeler Farm.
If you have made a Donation to JDRF ~ Thank you very much. I have had so much going on that I have not gotten Thank you cards out, but please know that we are very grateful !
I have tons of inventory and plan to have a fundraiser ~ I just need to set a date.

I hope you all have a fun and safe 4th of July !

Cameron has Swine Flu

Wednesday Cam woke up and said he was feeling achy all over. I kept him home from school but wasn't to concerned because he didn't seem terribly sick. He sat up all day playing computer games and watching TV. By the afternoon he seemed to be slowing down and started to run a fever. That bothered me a bit knowing that Swine flu causes a fever to come on quick and also knowing that it has not been a big deal for people with "regular" immune systems and that others with underlying problems were the ones having the most problems and even causing deaths.
I gave him some tylenol and told him to lay down and rest, his fever was 100. A couple hours later when I checked him again he was up to 101. I was starting to feel a bit more nervous but kept thinking maybe I was just being paranoid. He got up to 102.5 and I gave him some more tylenol. A couple more hours passed and he was 102.9, I decided I could no longer ignore that nagging feeling of dread in the back of my mind. We left about 10pm for Primary Children's and when we got there the Emergency room was packed with sick kids. My first thought was "we better find a comfortable spot to sit we are going to be here awhile". They called us up quickly to check his vitals and get a bit of info and then we went back to our seats. I was shocked when they called us back after only about 5 min. That scared me ! I know that they see patients in order of importance and they did not take us to an exam room, they put us in a trauma room. Now I was getting worried that my worst fears were coming true.
Before the Dr. even came over nurses were getting an IV ready and putting patches on his chest that hooked up to a machine. Once the Dr. came over he told us they were concerned because of his rapid heartbeat * 145 * which should have been around * 100* They needed to hydrate him and try to get his fever down to try and lower his heart rate. Then what we were afraid of, they were going to test him for swine flu. What an awful test, they put a bunch of saline up his nose and he was sreaming "I can't breathe" then they put tubes up his nose and started sunctioning. He was screaming out of pain and panic as I held his hand and quietly cried and Mike tried to hold his head still. Once that was over they told us we wouldn't get results til tomorrow. Now it was the waiting game. Why do these things always happen at the end of a long day ? By about 2 am his fever was starting to break but now he was vomiting so the Dr. wanted to continue to stay there. He started talking about keeping him for observation. By 3 am he was still vomiting but his fever had not come back so he gave the option to watch him at home and see our Dr later in the day or watch him in the observation area. We decided he would be more comfy at home so we finally left about 3:45. He continued vomiting and his fever came back..... To be continued later.

Uncle Bob

My Uncle Bob passed away Monday after a short battle with Cancer. He will be missed by many. I am so Thankful for the time we spent with him last year in Mesquite Nevada and Brianhead Utah. We will always remember his quick wit Fondly. We were supposed to be with him again this summer in California and I'm sure as we gather with family he will be there smiling over us.
